Two weeks

My triathlon is in two weeks. One thing I've done differently this summer is I've dropped a swimming day in favor of an extra day of running or biking ... I think it's helping. I feel pretty pumped right now. Here's what my workout routine has looked like for the past couple of months:

Sunday: 60 minutes of extreme cycle (spinning class) or a 2-hour bike ride outdoors
Monday: weights, followed by a 20 minute run with incline intervals on the treadmill
Tuesday: 3000 yard swim
Wednesday: 20-25 minute run around my hilly neighborhood, followed by push-ups
Thursday: 3000 yard swim
Friday: weights, followed by 45 minute extreme cycle class, followed by a 10-15 minute run
Saturday: rest or walk

I'm so ready to rock 'n roll. So ready.

What are the rest of you tough and buffers up to? Is anyone else out there?

BMI is bogus

I thought this was interesting ...

Also, my spinning instructor mentioned that heart rate monitors are also pretty sketchy on providing accurate feedback about your level of exertion. She said that your breathing and your own assessment of how hard you're working are better indicators of effort.

Yay!

Some of my "skinny" clothes fit! I am into some of my pre-baby clothes! I still have a bit of a belly (not sure if it is fat or skin or both) but I can wear my fave jackets! (I told my husband I am wearing one tomorrow even though it's corderoy and the weather is supposed to be in the 90's. ;P)

It's funny... the scale says (or said) 150 but I can wear a size 6/8? I'm not into my XS shirts yet (it's the brand... I could also wear a small or med at my smallest) because I am still nursing... alot... but DANG I am pretty proud of myself!

Now I have MORE motivation to workout and eat right because I am totally seeing the results! :)

10 pounds to go!

My goal is to lose ten pounds by Aug 17th, which is when my oldest starts school. (Someone stop my baaaabeee from growing up!) As of Sunday, I was 150, which is about 2 pounds LESS than when I started Weight Watchers when my middle kid was a year old. Basically, it took me a year to get to 152/size ten after my daughter was born. The baby is seven months old and I am 150/size ten. I know ten pounds in a month/six weeks is do-able but I am NOT finding the time to track points or measure portions. I am doing my best and figuring that I can't go wrong with eating lots of fruits and veggies and watching my portion sizes, right?

The BIG news came in a small package this morning: my nephew was born this am! He is a giant chunky baby at 9 pounds, 10 ounces. My sister had a c/s but not for size; the baby had a couple of heart decels. I'm fairly involved in the nautral birthing community, so a good friend and I had a couple of wonderful talks about c/s, statisics and all that. There's a short, free movie coming out on the internet in July, from the people at http://www.reducinginfantmortality.com/. The basic message is that the midwifery model of care can reduce infant mortality, reduce major interventions in birth and improve maternal/fetal outcomes.

Of course, I am THRILLED that my sister and the baby are healthy! Healthy mom, healthy baby, bottom line. However, I am really sad that my sister had to be one of the 31 per cent of mothers to give birth via major surgery.

Anyway, back to working out... we're going to the pool alot and my kids are becoming very good at swimming! The walking trails around our new house are very nice. It's quiet and it feels like we're in the woods. No traffic noises, nothing. Very peaceful, even with the fighting kids. ;)

Plantar Fasciitis

So, I woke up on Monday, and my right heel began hurting as soon as I stepped onto the floor. Dang it! I've had plantar fasciitis before ... about 7-8 years ago. Naturally, it would happen 5 weeks before the triathlon.

Anyway, I've given up running this week (it's messing up the whole training plan I'd set up for myself to focus on my weaker triathlon components). Here's what I'd been doing:

Mondays: weights, run (treadmill--incline intervals)
Tuesdays: swim
Wednesdays: push-ups, crunches, run around neighborhood (lots of hills)
Thursdays: swim
Fridays: weights, extreme cycle spin class, run
Weekend: one day of rest, other day = biking outdoors/cycle class or swimming

So, no running for me right now. Today, I got on the elliptical machine instead. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my foot feels better by Monday. It's already starting to feel a bit better.
