Inspired by the nine-year-old daughter of a family friend, I have committed to raising $2,000.00 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society this spring, as I train for an Olympic distance triathlon (my first of that distance!) with Team in Training. I look forward to this journey!

Cool Blog: Fit and Feminist
Check out this fabulous blog for some inspiration: http://fitandfeminist.wordpress.com/. I found it while doing some research on "masculine girls" and Brittney Griner, the superstar basketball player from Baylor. There's a lot of good stuff here.

Triathlon Training
Trent and I have officially registered for the triathlon in August in honor of Trent's cousin. I'll do the race on my own (500m swim, 10 mile bike, 5K run), and Trent's doing the relay with Andy swimming and our aunt's partner John doing the bike portion. John is 68 and has never done a cycling race or triathlon of any kind, but he's game to take on the hills of Missouri, which KICKS ASS, in my opinion. Trent's just happy because he knows his teammates. Stranger danger.
And I'm happy because I have something to train for again. Weehaw!
And with that in mind, I'm going to share my training plan. I've dropped weight lifting completely from my routine, but I'm still doing strength exercises. I'm also increasing the amount of biking/running I'm doing since they're the most heavily weighted (in terms of time/exertion) in triathlon.
Sundays: 45-50 min. bike followed immediately by 15-30 minute run outdoors
Wednesdays: Rest
Thursdays: 45-50 min. CrossFit/Bootcamp
Fridays: 2000m swim (focusing on free and breast, both of which I use during lake swims), followed immediately by 20-45 minutes on stationary bike, then 15-30 min. run.
I probably don't need to do this much swimming, but I like it so much. I'm trying to convince some of my peeps here to enter a local triathlon in July. The starting line is within biking distance of my house, so I'm tempted to register even if my buddies don't. We shall see ...
That's all for now. Looking forward to my rest day tomorrow. Happy first week of June!!

Sundays: 45-50 min. bike followed immediately by 15-30 minute run outdoors
- I'm increasing the run time by about 2.5 minutes each week until the race; it will take me about 30 minutes to do the 5K at the end of the race
- This is essentially a .25 mile run followed by an upper body, core, or lower body strength set, repeated 9 times (3 of each strength set).
- The idea is to do the strength sets when you're winded from running and to do the runs even when your muscles are tired from the strength set, particularly the leg exercises. It's more about mental toughness, which I need to work on to keep going on the run during the race.
- I am happy to say that I'm now able to do 2-3 pull-ups unassisted, followed immediately by 15 push-ups without too much difficulty.

- Like my bike-runs on Sundays, I'm increasing the bike/run times on Fridays (adding .5 mile on bike, and .25 mile run each week).

KEEN--Whah
Here ya go KT! Are you still eating quinoa? (funny that quinoa auto corrects to Joaquin)
http://www.wholeliving.com/178486/quinoa-feta-burgers
I tried this the other day, I'm not a fan. One of my pals that owns a share of my goats, has been making a lot of feta with the milk. I could eat that all day, but somehow it didn't all mesh with me in this recipe.
Hey! I'm headed to the pool, imagine that. Have a great day.

Races
I just registered for the Matt Mason Memorial "Cowboy Up" Triathlon for Aug. 5 at Smithville Lake in Missouri. Matt was Trent's cousin, father of three sons, and a Navy SEAL who died last August on a mission in Afghanistan.
Andy's planning to participate, and I think Trent will do the run portion of a relay, if we can find a swimmer and cyclist. My parents won't volunteer. Dang it. Maybe Andy's girlfriend will participate, or maybe some of his swimmer friends. We shall see.
I found out there's a sprint triathlon that takes place about a mile from my house two weeks before the August race ... I'm tempted to sign up, simply because I could ride my bike to and from the race site. I'll keep you posted.
Hope you're all enjoying this beautiful weather!

You are all so together. I can't even manage to get food on the table most nights. I have become a mother again, okay well not technically but my last goat finally kidded. She had a girl and boy and her udder is looking wonderful. With her additional milk I'll be squeezing the teats of 6 goats, twice a day. Raw milk is good for you! Just ask me I'll tell ya!
Jolene's school has also had their Spring programs. The grade school made paper mache puppets and did a great little song and dance about the great things found in the backyard. I really love Jolene's school. There are about 30 kids in K-8th grade. She's having a tough time making the grades she did when she was attending school in Swink but she's learning. Grades aren't always reflective of what is packed in her gray matter.
The middle school put on a CSI: Guffey mystery instead of a song and dance presentation. The little town of Guffey CO has a mayor that is black, bushy and of the feline persuasion and was fictionally murdered by Mrs. S the middle school teacher. It was a Who-Done it like the game Clue. Much fun was had. The students along with providing clues about Monster the Cat's murder each had an organ harvested from animals that are donated to the wolf rescue. Each team explained the function of their organ to the participants. Jolene and her friend Molly got to chat about a calf heart. Jolene's chosen name for the event was Sara Bellum. Very clever I thought.
Jolene also had a "Talking Head" presentation at the program. She chose Shoeless Joe Jackson as her subject. She crafted a paper mache head, sans ears and recorded biographical information about the ball player. Parents and friends were able to hear her talk and the others who participated throughout the day. Leave it to Bean to pick a ball player instead of someone like Gertrude Ederle.
She also took pictures for me at the 8th grader's Presentation Celebration. In order to graduate from out little school, 8th graders must complete and present a project. The project is student initiated, must include community service, a life skill, a visual presentation, and a biography of the student. It requires the entire school year to complete and includes a team of support. Jolene was selected as peer support for her friend Kayla. She wanted to dress in her usual attire of shorts and a hoodie sweatshirt. I insisted that she dress up a bit as it was a "special" occasion. I threatened with a dress but we compromised on a dress shirt and a tie. The girl has a style all her own. She turns 13 in July, I'm doomed.

I'm still here.
Katie, you are not blogging alone! I am reading, I swear!
The truth is, I am been sitting around on my butt doing nothing. Well, not nothing but I haven't been working out. But I did buy a new to me bike trailer for mother's day! We'll see how that goes, ha!
The kids are good. My oldest made his first communion. My daughter has glasses. My 3 year old began special needs preschool and his vocab is shooting up. The toddler is a maniac who has had reoccuring ear infections, is seeing an ent and also qualifies for speech. I am selling thirty one gifts and writing for the natural parents network. One of my articles went bacterial (not viral, lol) and I am starting to get reviews and products for my blog. I feel like my writing is taking off and it is making me happy!
Katie if you are in KC this weekend, stop by my place as I am having a thirty one open house. there will be booze. bring andy's girlfriend. Bring everyone! lol everyone is welcome! :)

Private Blog
Hello, tough and buffers:
I made this blog a private blog because I was tired of people spamming us with comments ... and also because I have class blogs at WSU that are connected to my Blogger profile, and I didn't really want my students reading my posts on here. So, what this means is, we're the only people who can read this blog, and we have to log in to do so. Is that okay with all of you? If you forgot your Blogger log-in, I can re-send the invitation to you, and you can recreate your username and password.
Laura--I think I accidentally removed you from the author list, but then I re-invited you. Sorry about that.
If you know of other people who want to read the blog, we can change the settings and add them as readers (or authors).
I'm off for a swim now. Earlier this week, my master's team and I played underwater hockey (that sucked) and water polo (that was fun!). Today it's just a regular workout.
I need to find a triathlon to train for this summer. I've been adding cycling-running workouts to the mix for the last few weeks, but I haven't actually found a race to train for. Dang it.
Gonna watch Andy do a sprint triathlon in KC this Sunday. I would have entered the race, but you need a wetsuit to swim, and I don't have that.
Guess what else I'm going to do ... meet Andy's new girlfriend!!! That's right. The reports are in. Andy is smitten. And that's another reason why this blog is now private. I'm sure Andy would be mortified to know that I'm blogging about his love life.
Off to the pool!!!!
